在经历了90年代硬核音乐的艰难时期之后，00年代代表了硬核音乐的一种复兴，这至少在某种程度上要归功于两个厂牌，即Bridge Nine Records和Deathwish Inc.。
此外，过去二十年的硬核朋克（Hardcore Punk）之所以令人激动，还在于其风格的多样性。其中一些趋势值得强调：坚持Hatebreed那种金属核（ Metalcore）风格的乐队（Terror、Throwdown）、女性主唱的乐队（Slant、Gouge Away、Scowl）、对80年代西海岸经典硬核（ Early West Coast Hardcore）声音进行现代演绎的乐队（Career Suicide、OFF! Ceremony）、纽约硬核（ New York Hardcore）的复兴者（Trapped Under Ice、Backtrack、No Warning），最后还有一些乐队提出了旋律硬核（ Melodic Hardcore）的新流派，有时也被称为“旋律金属硬核”（Melodic Metallic Hardcore），在本书中称为新派旋律硬核（New School Melodic Hardcore）（The Ghost Inside、Have Heart、Modern Life Is War）。
